Our bone meal is a high-quality, organic fertilizer that is made from Bovine bones that have been steam dried and finely ground. It is a slow-release source of phosphorus, which means that it provides a steady stream of nutrients to your plants over time. Steamed bone meal is especially beneficial for plants that require a lot of phosphorus, such as flowering plants and vegetables.
Our Steamed Bone Meal is of Bovine origin to minimise potential human disease vectors that can come from commercial, porcine derived “Blood and Bone”. Commerical garden grade Blood and Bone is very different from what we sell in our raw Bone Meal (or Blood Meal) amendments, it is of low quality, full of contaminants and cutting ingredients, unlike our pure - uncut ingredients.
Our Bone Meal is very low in residual “meat” which is actually the “blood” you get in commercial B&B, this means pound for pound our Bone Meal provides more Calcium and Phosphorus than these inferior sources. This does mean our Bone Meal has much less Nitrogen, if you wish to bolster its N content, you can simply add a small amount of our Pure Blood Meal - or other Nitrogen rich ingredient like Soybean Meal.
Here's how steamed bone meal can help your garden:
-
Promotes root growth: Phosphorus is essential for root growth, and steamed bone meal can help to promote the development of healthy roots. This can lead to stronger, healthier plants with more abundant yields.
-
Enhances flowering: Phosphorus is also essential for flowering, and steamed bone meal can help to promote the development of flowers. This can lead to more abundant and colorful blooms.
-
Improves soil health: Steamed bone meal can help to improve soil health by increasing the amount of organic matter in the soil. This can help to improve drainage, aeration, and water retention, which can all benefit plant growth.
How to use steamed bone meal:
Steamed bone meal can be applied to the soil at planting time, or it can be side-dressed throughout the growing season.
The application rate of steamed bone meal will vary depending on the soil type and the desired results. However, a general rule of thumb is to apply 1/2 to 2 tablespoons per 5 liters of soil.
Caution:
Steamed bone meal is a slow-release fertilizer, so it is important to use it regularly to ensure that your plants are getting the nutrients they need. It is also important to note that steamed bone meal can attract rodents, so it is important to store it in a secure place.
If you are looking for a natural way to boost the flowering and root growth of your plants, steamed bone meal is a great option. It is a safe and effective fertilizer that can benefit a variety of plants.
